Fat dissolving
For small, defined pockets that stay put no matter what you do — under the chin most commonly, but also arms, hips, thighs and the lower stomach. This is a contouring treatment for specific areas, not a weight loss treatment, and it works best on people who are already near where they want to be.
What it does, and what it does not
A solution based on deoxycholic acid is injected into the fat layer, where it breaks down the wall of the fat cells it reaches. The contents are then cleared by the body over the following weeks. Cells that are broken down this way do not come back — though remaining cells in the area can still enlarge if your weight changes significantly.
It is deliberately local. Treating a pocket the size of a double chin takes two to four sessions; treating a whole abdomen is not what this is for. If what you are describing is general weight loss, you will be told that this is the wrong treatment.

Swelling after treatment is expected and can be pronounced for the first few days, particularly under the chin. That is the treatment working, and it is worth planning around anything you have coming up.

Questions
Is this a weight loss treatment?
No, and it is worth being clear about that before booking. It reduces specific pockets of fat in a defined area. It will not change the number on a scale in any meaningful way, and it is not a substitute for the things that do.
How swollen will I be?
Under the chin, quite noticeably, for the first few days — that area swells more than most. It settles, but do not book it the week of an event.
Will the fat come back?
The cells that are broken down are cleared and do not return. Fat cells remaining in the area can still enlarge if your weight goes up substantially, so the result holds best alongside a stable weight.
Would ultrasound be better for my double chin?
Sometimes, and the two are often confused. Fat dissolving reduces the fat pad; focused ultrasound tightens the skin over it. Which one helps depends on whether your complaint is volume or laxity — frequently it is both, and they are used in sequence. See non-surgical lifting.
